Mr. Arnaz's one stab at stardom

I saw this movie on TV many years ago and haven't seen or heard of it since. My vague memory is of it looking very cheap and international, like the Elizabeth Taylor version of "The Bluebird." The cast all seemed to have been post-dubbed (badly) and the sets looked very small and claustrophobic.

Desi Arnaz, Jr. made for a very weak lead and I can't recall a single song he sang. I do remember that he is somehow saddled with a princess who turns out to be a real self-reliant warrior and feminist and that I liked her character a lot. The one song I still remember is one butch number called "By Damn!" which she sings while essentially doing a striptease out of her warrior armor.

The film comes to life when Zero Mostel is on screen, causing poor charisma-free Arnaz to just fade into the scenery. It's easy to see why he never took off as a screen actor.

Somewhere mixed in the plot is the hunt for whales to get ambergris to put into perfume.
